Sunday Counters: The 85 Designated GPOs
Many people think the post office shuts completely at weekends. In fact, Pakistan Post opens counters at 85 designated General Post Offices on Sundays.
Sunday counters open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. They are for booking:
- Urgent Mail Service (UMS): Fast mail and parcels within Pakistan.
- Express Mail Service (EMS): Fast international letters and parcels.
- Registered Post: Legal notices and other important letters.
- Bill payments: We could not confirm whether Sunday counters take bill payments. Ask your GPO.
Smaller post offices are usually closed on Sundays. To book on a Sunday, go to one of the designated GPOs. Call the helpline to find the nearest one.
Counters vs Delivery at the Weekend
Booking at a counter and delivery by a postman are different, so it helps to know how each works:
Public Counter Booking
GPO counters open Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (with a Friday prayer break from 1:00 to 2:00 PM). On Sundays, 85 designated GPOs open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. You can post items and get a barcode receipt.
Delivery by Postmen
Postmen deliver Monday to Saturday. They do not deliver on Sundays. Items that reach your local post office on Sunday wait until the next working day.
Public Holidays and Eid
Postmen do not deliver on gazetted public holidays. We could not confirm which counters stay open, so check with your GPO. Common holidays include:

Hours During Ramadan
Opening hours may change during Ramadan. We could not confirm the exact times Pakistan Post uses:
Monday to Saturday
Check the Ramadan hours with your local GPO before you go.
Friday
Friday hours may also be different. Ask your GPO.

How the Weekend Affects Delivery Times
Posting at the weekend affects when your item arrives. Keep these points in mind:
- Saturday Afternoon Booking: Items posted late on Saturday may not move until after the weekend. Ask at the counter about the last collection time.
- Sunday GPO Booking: Items booked at a Sunday counter move on with the normal mail after that.
- Continuous Rail Sorting: Mail on the Railway Mail Service (RMS) keeps moving on Sundays, so items already on the way continue their trip.
